Marco Marco is an industrious public health professional, researcher, and leader with a strong record of academic excellence, organizational leadership, and hands-on engagement in health and development initiatives. He holds a Bachelor of Human Nutrition from Sokoine University of Agriculture, Tanzania, and a Master of Public Health (MPH) from the University of Tsukuba, Japan. He is a recipient of the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship, one of the most prestigious and competitive scholarships globally awarded to individuals demonstrating outstanding academic merit and leadership potential. Marco has played a central leadership role within the Association of Tanzanian Students in Japan (TSJ). He served as Deputy Secretary in 2025, where he was instrumental in strengthening administrative systems, improving coordination, and enhancing member registration and engagement. In recognition of his dedication, reliability, and leadership capacity, he was elected Deputy Chairperson of TSJ in 2026. In these roles, he has contributed significantly to the successful planning and coordination of Annual General Meetings (AGMs), fundraising and financial mobilization initiatives, internal communication systems, and strategic activities aimed at fostering unity, transparency, and active participation among Tanzanian students across Japan. Professionally, Marco has accumulated broad experience working with international and faith-based non-governmental organizations, including World Vision Tanzania, Catholic Relief Services, and Pathfinder International. Across these organizations, he worked collaboratively within multidisciplinary and often complex institutional environments, providing technical and operational support to frontline health, environment, and development teams at community, district, and regional levels. His work has spanned integrated Population, Health, Environment, and Development (PHED) programming, social and behavior change communication, community mobilization, disaster preparedness and response, and health systems strengthening. He supported the design and implementation of community-level interventions; facilitated stakeholder engagement during planning meetings, workshops, and seminars; strengthened partnerships with local actors; and collaborated closely with regional and district health authorities on supply chain management, Health Management Information Systems (HMIS), planning, and budgeting. He also contributed to monitoring, evaluation, and research activities, conducted qualitative fieldwork to document community impact and success stories, and led capacity-building initiatives for community leaders and local authorities. Alongside his programmatic work, Marco maintains a strong and evolving research profile in population health. His research interests encompass maternal, newborn, and child health, with an expanding focus on ecological epidemiology. He is particularly interested in examining how environmental and contextual exposures, including ecological, social, and health-system factors, interact to influence health outcomes across the life course. His work leverages large-scale population-based data and advanced quantitative analytical methods to generate evidence that informs policy, program design, and equitable health interventions.
